Dog Blog #2- 8/18/10

Day two of preseason began with middles and outsides coming in a half hour early for our individual session. We worked on lots of blocking and serving. I could definitely feel the soreness starting to set in. Once the rest of the team was warmed up and ready to go, most of the morning practice was filled with defense and blocking. We worked on a new blocking drill that was designed to help us press our outside hands over the net.

After our lunch break we returned to practice at 3. There was much more competition in the second practice. We played a new game called serve four. It’s a high intensity game where different stats are kept for each position, focusing mainly on blocking and defense, our main focus of the day. For example, the middles tracked their blocking stats. At the end of the game whichever player had the most points in their position was safe while the rest of us had to run. Running is always a good incentive to win.

Around 7 that night, we headed to the Armory, where we took pictures for our team poster. We had a HMMWV or humvee and (fortunately) unloaded weapons. The American flag was our awesome back drop. After the team picture we split up and did pictures by position, class, or any other group that we wanted one with. Of course, many of the girls did the jumping into the air picture…classic. It was super duper fun and I know that they will turn out really well. Keep a look out of for the posters and hopefully we will see everyone at a game this fall!
